The cricket’s chirping filled him with strange unease, taking him back to his dreams of the Wraiths invading the Clans. He’d only been an apprentice, but he still vividly remembered the feeling of being hunted. His whiskers twitched as he felt the air. He drank in the scents of the forest. The group of traveling cats was the dominant scent, but Tallwhisker stayed, perched behind a rock that hid most of his bright pelt. He knew that the Wraiths must have been far behind. His logical thinking told him there was nothing to worry about, but something in him kept him stuck there, looking into the trees. His ears perked straight up, and every sense in his body was on high alert.
He had a long journey the next day, he knew that, and it would be best to sleep. He almost got up from his place by the rock, nearly about to head back to his sleeping brother, but the wind changed direction, and he smelled the scent of a cat opposite the group. Tallwhisker turned, his fur bristled aggressively and his claws unsheathed as he saw a moving figure towards him from the shadows.
