more than just somebody i was destined to meet ₊˚⊹꒷ SONG: GRANITE BY SLEEP TOKEN
CHARACTER: VIX / VIXENBLOOM ⟡ ❥ THE AIR around her swirled as the dark russet colored tabby she-cat inhaled and exhaled, watching. Intently she observed as more cats congregated, assuming that what she was seeing was the ragged group come to a point to rest. Gaze flickering towards the sky, lingering as she noticed that blue was slowly turning into pinks, purples, and oranges as the sun was well below the trees and beginning it's descent into the horizon.
Never before had she seen such a sight. So many cats, all in one spot. Whatever could it be for? A chill sent itself down her spine, somehow interpreting the occurrence as a bad omen.
Most of her life was spent alone, except for her time as a kitten with her mother and littermates. Now that she was older and on her own, crossing paths with another cat usually wasn't a good experience. There was always a fight over food, turf, or sometimes no other reason than bad attitudes. Vix had a few permanent marks beneath her coat to prove it. So naturally fear welled inside of her as more cats milled around the clearing in front of her. If she dared to even move a muscle, the branches of the elderberry she crouched stiffly in would stir and likely bring attention with so many eyes and ears. If they didn't assume her a cat, they'd assume her a rabbit. Either way she was likely to be met with claws. Even if she could retreat, a part of her was curious. Again she thought about the oddity of the event, and she lingered on the why's and how's in her head as she continued her survey.
Little did she know that despite her best efforts to conceal herself, the light in the sky was just enough to catch the reflects of her golden eyes. From the clearing it wasn't hard to see a pair of golden orbs peering out from the undergrowth.

Driftfall breathed in the crisp wind that had taken ahold of the weather as of late. He opened his eyes, the setting sun making his pale brown eyes glow reddish-gold. While soaking in his surroundings, he noticed something upwind. That ‘something’ wasn’t right. Driftfall had already greeted most of the cats within the group and had a vague memory of their scents. The one that hit his nose now was new and different- nothing like the traveling cats, but he knew it had to be a cat.
Driftfall stood casually, not wanting to bring worrying thoughts to the already travel-weary cats. He turned his head to where the wind blew and saw two golden eyes, glinting from the leaf-bare sun, watching the group of cats.
Driftfall moved from the cat’s range of view and ducked into the trees, his silent paws never failing him. He crept closer until the reddish cat was within sight again. Having thought that they did not look so bad, he made his presence known and spoke as nicely as he could, afraid they would be scared, “Hello, I’m Driftfall. Who would you be?”

She must have zoned out. Vix was usually hyper aware of her surroundings. Yet nothing about this was usual. So when she heard a voice her heart skipped a beat and in the moment of panic she had half a thought to run and not look back. The only thing that kept her paws firm on the ground was the voice's calm demeanor. Her eyes shot to the cat, defiant, glowing with spitfire. If he wanted a fight, he wouldn't have introduced himself, she reminded herself. Managing to otherwise keep her fur flat, she gave a small nod, her mouth a little dry as she struggled at first to find words.
"Vix." She said quickly. "That's my name, I mean."
She looked him over, taking in any clues she could about the context to what she stumbled upon. If there was anything she decided, it was that these cats were strange, no doubt. First off, what kind of cat just crept up to say a hi and their name? The only cats she knew that were like that were the ones like her mother, the barn cats or the ones kept by humans that she knew from her kithood. They didn't have to fight for survival though, considering their food and shelter was provided. Vix didn't like the humans though. Never had. No amount of food or shelter could change that, even if that meant roughing it in the wild with cats who didn't like to share necessities or conversation. All that to say, she couldn't remember the last time she pleasantly spoke to another. She had to mind her tone, she supposed.
"I haven't ever seen anything like this before. So many cats... together." Vix's eyes went back to the gathered group. "I don't even know where to begin with the questions I have. I guess... who are you all?"

Driftfall blinked, a bit surprised. The breath of the sky teased his short blue-gray fur. The young warrior then purred in pure joy at the question, “You must be from far if you think this is odd. The cats you see before you are the remains of Clans, Warriors, Queens, Apprentices, and kits, but some are loners and kittypets who decided to join us in our ranks.” His eyes glittered warmly, “They are my family, and we’ve been searching for a new place to live since driven out of our old homes.”
Driftfall quickly added, as if wanting to reassure the she-cat, “Do not worry, Vix. StarClan is already taking us to a good home. Although, it is curious why you would be interested in watching us when tonight brings such a chill.” The blue-gray tabby gave Vix a worried look, as he might for his kin. Driftfall already knew since she had given her name that Vix had not spoken to other cats in a friendly fashion often. The thought made his heart ache, he could be alone, but it was nice to have somecat to come home to instead of more silence. He spoke no lie to her so he could gain her trust. Hopefully, Vix could sleep somewhere warm within their temporary camp until the sun returned at dawn.
He considered taking responsibility for her should Vix make a mistake. Of course, no matter what Driftfall promised, one cat would always be against his ideas. Driftfall hoped from the bottom of his heart and soul that Vix would agree to stay for the night and that she would be accepted before Harewind would have a chance to share his opinion. Besides, there was much he wanted to ask her as well.
Perhaps he was getting too ahead of himself.

"Well, if I'm honest the forest wasn't my first home. And since I left that place and traveled the wild, the few cats I have met were seldom in more than a pair and usually they were pretty mean..." The words just spilled out before she could really stop them, falling back into old conversational habits like a duck to water. Mentally she chastised herself, not wanting to be too friendly. She fell silent for a few moments, before taking a deeper breath and stepping out of the bushes. Shaking her pelt of any debris, she sat, curling her fluffy tail around her paws and looking back to Driftfall with a raised brow. "You told me not to worry, so if anyone claws my ears off it's on you and I will hold you accountable."
"So a family huh? Big family." Vix never heard of clans or any of their ranks, nonetheless StarClan. The only terms she really knew were loner and kittypet, a term she wasn't too fond of at times when used as an insult. She had heard rumors of large groups of cats that lived together and harshly protected their territory, but nothing more than that. Yet it here it was before her eyes. But he said they were driven out, didn't he? She didn't want to think about what possibly could do that. "Guess it's all just a bit different than what I've so far experienced out here is all. Even when I was a kit and friendly cats were common, this many in one place was practically unheard of. Nor did they all live together." She kept the fact that it was kittypets she was talking about to herself, despite the fact he said that some were even among the group. Even though she never once considered herself a kittypet, one of her first experiences with another wild cat was being mocked for her origin before being attacked. Guilt by association to the unreasonable feline, she figured, but it didn't make the memory any less sour.

Driftfall smiled bittersweetly. He guessed her life had been drenched in sorrow, as many who came near to his traveling companions did. Driftfall’s heart went out to Vix, and he knew he must have great perseverance to convince her to stay the night- to show her, at the least, a little hospitality. His gentle expression returned to his face. Driftfall couldn’t leave the she-cat without doing this little thing for her.
Dirftfall, struggling to refrain from bombarding her with reassurance, “I.. know that is how we appear, and while we seem scary, it is to protect our families and loved ones.” He felt his struggle to distinguish as his eyes became filled with love, “We may not all be related or may not have the same backgrounds, but we love one another as littermates would.” Driftfall, as always, felt the urge to show kindness to those who needed it. Whether or not they wanted it, he would try.
Driftfall hoped to convey his emotions to Vix through his words, to show her that the world was not as cold as it seemed, “Would you mind going to our Camp? You could meet everyone and stay the night in the warmth of a crowd! Then, in the morning, I could show you the best spots for hunting.” Feeling antsy seeing the sun almost gone, he gave her the most pitiful expression he could manage. Driftfall felt his fur bristle and his heart rate spike. Driftfall was determined to show her kindness, even if he had to expose his greatest fear to get her to safety.
