Happy to receive more information about his new clanmates' origins, Stonefang eagerly listened wanting to learn all he could. Knowledge was important to him. If he was going to fit in with them, knowing their backgrounds was vital to him. So Myrtlewing and Harewind are littermates and Driftfall is their brother from a later kitting, he mauled over the information.
"That must have been a hard time for Myrtlewing," he mewed sympathetically when he was told about Tigerdusk's untimely death. His thoughts went to the gentle queen who was very strong in may ways. She'd have to be to get through the hardships she's suffered, he thought.
The scent of rabbit reached his nose about the same time Driftfall picked it up. A thrill of excitement ran through his body. It sure would be nice to bring back such a catch for the clan. Flattening himself next to his new friend, he whispered, "I've never team caught a rabbit before. Just tell me what to do and I'll do it." There was determination in his voice.

Driftfall thought for a moment, unsure how to teach someone, but then nodded towards the rabbit, whispering, “Creep up to it, making not a sound, and once you are sure it is unexpecting, you are to leap at it.” Rabbits were difficult to chase after, so the best advantage they could use was stealth.
The blue-gray tabby crept forward, his paws touching the Earth soundlessly. His pale brown eyes focused on the rabbit. Driftfall’s heart nearly stopped when the cracking of a tree branch made the rabbit start to run. In a panic, Driftfall leaped forward and caught the rabbit, though it struggled in his muzzle. He lost balance, clumsily slipping into the snow. Pulling himself up, he held up the rabbit in triumph, shouting, despite his full mouth, “I was successful!” Driftfall purred in sheer joy as he quickly walked back to Stonefang.
Driftfall set down the now-deceased rabbit with a guilty expression, “I apologize for not letting you participate, I suppose I got carried away when the rabbit started running. I panicked. The next one is all yours.”

"No worries," Stonefang replied, although he was a bit disappointed he didn't get to participate in the catch. "That was a fine catch you made. I hope I can do just as well." He led the way further into the meadow taking care not to make too much noise. In fact, he did quite well. His shadow couldn't had been any noiseless than his feet. He scanned the area with his eyes, ears, and nose careful to keep his scent from blowing toward his prey.
It took longer than he wanted but he was finally rewarded with the scent of rabbit. Soon he spotted the bunny nibbling away on some vegetation. He signaled to Driftfall and got into his hunter's crouch. Painstakingly slow, he made his way closer and closer toward the rabbit until he was almost within pouncing range. But just then, with some quirk of the breeze it changed and blew his scent to the rabbit. Immediately the rabbit looked up from it's grazing then bolted. "Mouse dung!" Stonefang hissed as he gave chase. The rabbit led him on a merry chase zigzagging here and there until it was headed right toward Driftfall. "CATCH IT! It's heading right to you!!"

Driftfall’s light brown eyes stretched wide as the rabbit zoomed in his direction. Lowering himself to try and catch the quick-footed creature, it hopped over his head, scrambling into a hole under a tree. Driftfall slumped forward but quickly regained his sense of gravity and clawed under the tree. Yelping, having been bitten, he sank his hooked claws into the rabbit’s fur, dragging it out. Snapping its neck with his jaw, he turned and gave a relieved huff. Driftfall purred in Stonefang’s direction, “That was quite lucky, was it not? I can not believe how spry these little ones are this season.”
He picked up the rabbit, off to hide it with the other. He wondered if the rabbits would be happy to be together. If maybe they had known each other before death? Perhaps they would get to graze on fresh, green grass together in a better place than this- where the sun gave the earth its warmth, and they were not always so close to death.

"Well, at least I'm glad you fixed my bungling," Stonefang meowed, upset with himself for messing up the hunt. "It was a good catch by the way. Do you want to take these back to the others now and then go out hunting again?" He thought that those left back at the camp would like to have something to eat sooner rather than later. Besides the walk back might help settle down his anger with himself.

Sensing Stonefang’s frustration, Driftfall shook his head and purred, “That was a poor catch on my part. Strictly speaking, my dear Clanmate, you faired well for someone supposedly indecent at hunting. We’re all good at something. For example, I am quite the clumsy Warrior on land,” he chuckled embarrassedly, knowing that this tom could probably guess. “But, when hunting in water, I have proven my hunting skills satisfactory. I am silent and take the currents to my advantage. Thus, even I have my uses.”
Driftfall gave the gray tabby a bright look, “On a better note, yes. I suppose we should make trips back and forth. That way, poor Hazykit, and the others won’t wander about for a meal themselves.”
It was well past sunrise now, although the light of day wasn’t quite there. Driftfall knew the Leaf-bare was to blame and, for the billionth time that morning, wished he had been born with his mother’s fluffy fur instead of his father’s short pelt. “Do you judge we caught enough for the trip?” Driftfall meowed, half asking and half begging. The tall blue-gray tom loved the cats and would hunt night and day for them, but at this point, he could hardly feel his legs or the paws on them. He was almost positive Harewind would have to drag him on the journey, as the grumpy tom had done whenever Driftfall tuckered himself out as an apprentice.
