Her claws curled into the frozen ground underpaw, snowy tail tip flicking back and forth. Her gut told her that she was so close to find what StarClan had been driving them to do, yet something seemed to be missing. The tug was still there, it just wasn't as insistent as before. Like she needed to take a pause, to take a breath before what was to come.
The bush she was sheltered under was caked in snow, making a nice little cave by the roots. The night was falling, clouds clearing from the darkening sky to reveal purples and reds dotted with stars. Coastcurl peered out from her little den, stormy blue eyes turned up to the stars. They held all the answers but were reluctant to give them. With a sigh that clouded out around her face, she turned back into the little den and curled up, ready to sleep for the night, despite the pang in her belly. She hadn't eaten today, which had become the norm with the traveling cats due to leaf-bare.
While she wasn't the easiest of cats to get along with at times, she still enjoyed company. And at this moment with her paws freeze and teeth chattering, company would have been ever more welcome than normal for her. As long as they didn't smell too bad and had decent manners. Maybe not.

He was cold and he was hungry. Stonefang couldn't decide which was worse. The hunger pains had driven him to search for food and now it was getting dark. Once again he'd have to go to sleep without eating. What was it now two days since he'd last eaten and that was just a scrawny little mouse he shared with another cat. He'd be glad when leafbare was over. The thought of going to his cold nest alone was just as unappealing as not eating.
Coming to where the group had stopped for the day, he saw movement under a bush covered in snow. Perhaps whoever was under there would appreciate a warm body as much as he would. Sticking his head under the bush, he asked softly, "Like some company tonight?"

Like every other cat on this journey, Tsunamibeach was also starved and freezing - but this didn't affect her bright and overly optimistic outlook. Which was surly driving some cats insane at this point. The tips of her soft light brown fur was nearing white with frost at this point. But she just kept trekking forward, it was all she knew how to do. Afterall if there wasn't at least one smile, how were others supposed to try and keep their hopes up? After seeing how painfully tired and hungry everyone was she had made it her personal mission to go and hunt something to share with the others. She had set off at dawn and was just now returning. The exhaustion showing in her normally wild body. All she had to show was a single rabbit and a tiny mouse. It wasn't much but at least someone would be able to sleep without an empty stomach tonight.
Trekking through the snow, she ignored the ever creeping pain that bite at her paw pads. Ear twitching a voice caught her attention and she redirected herself. Perfect the perfect volunteers for dinner. Approaching the bush she saw the form of Stonefang and shuffled over to where he was peeking in. Dropping her pitiful catch she offered a tired smile to what was now clearly a pair. "You guys hungry?" she chimed, her voice betraying the clear exhaustion, instead it was warm and light, almost playful. Glancing at Coastcurl to assure she knew the offer was also extended towards her.

Just as he heard somecat approach from behind, the delicate aroma of fresh kill assailed Stonefang's nostrils. His eyes locked just for an instant with Coastcurl's eyes before he turned back toward Tsunamibeach. As he opened his mouth to speak, his stomach let out a loud growl. "I guess that answers your question," he replied. "It looks like you had better luck than I did. I couldn't even find a sniff of anything. Thanks!" His stomach growled again. He wanted the rabbit desperately but he thought of the others in their group.
Turning back toward Coastcurl, he asked, "Want to share this mouse with me? Perhaps some others would like the rabbit." He knew it wouldn't feed all that were with them but at least some could get a bite.

When Stonefang had first approached her, she had been hesitant to reply just to the sheer fact that he had offered company when that was what she had been craving most. The little grey she-cat had been about to open her jaws to accept the toms offer when she too felt the warm tang of freshkill dance across her tongue. She didn't know either Stonefang or Tsunamibeach very well, but they had agreed to travel with her and that fact meant a lot to the young she-cat.
Giving her head a quick shake to clear the flood of thoughts and emotions that came to cloud her head, she gave a quick laugh and nodded. "Both a mouse and company would be nice at the moment."

There was a sense of relief when they didn't turn her away. Granted it wasn't like anyone would turn down fresh-kill in times like this, but there was always the chance. Giving them both a warm smile she nudged the rabbit their way, "You guys should share the rabbit, it will help you keep up your strength, after all you've already been so busy." she chimed, the hints of snow on her nose already melting from her own body heat. This journey had been rough on them all, but she had been doing her best to keep hopeful that it would all be over soon and they will get a chance to rest.

Stonefang eyed the rabbit hungrily having already wolfing down his portion of the mouse. It was hardly a bite and served only as an appetizer for his deprived stomach. "Tell you what," he suggested, "Only if you eat some too with us. We can still save a lot for some of the other cats who haven't eaten yet today."

With a small curl of her lip, Coastcurl nodded towards Stonefang, turning her stormy eyes to Tsuamibeach and said, "You better have a bite or I won't." Though hunger gnawed at her belly, she would not eat until the cats who had followed her had their fill. Though she was young, she felt the weight of leadership falling onto her shoulders and she knew what she needed to do to get these cats love and respect.
She was not going to be a leader that was chosen, she knew that. But a leader that worked her way up from the trenches through hard work and love from the others. There was something in her bones that was driving her to be that cat, that leader for others, that she couldn't ignore. And it all started with a simple statement like this. Let them eat before her, show them to care for others. This was only the second winter she had seen.
"I am more than happy with bones and scraps," Coastcurl continued with a wry grin. "Besides, the bones can be useful. I once saw a cat with a tooth pierced through her ear. Seemed pretty interesting to try." Her storm cloud eyes glowed, waiting for the gasps of response. She had a tendency to say some absurd things for shock, only to see what the response of others was.

Stonefang flicked his ears in response to Coastcurl's comment. "That would hurt," he said. "Why would anycat want to poke a hole in their ear? Unless, did she get it from a fight?"
If he ever got a hole in his ear, Stonefang would hope it would heal over. He certainly wouldn't go sticking things through it.

WHAT WILL THE MIST BRING? Silverkit had just joined the group and was curious about them. Their history and such. The young kit was hungry and heard the exchange. She wanted to eat something, but wasn't sure how to approach the adults. She was afraid they might cuff her and snap at her to go away. But she decided to take a chance and headed over to them, a friendly smile on her face. She stopped a tail-length from the nearest cat, who was Stonefang.
She walked a little closer, ears perked forward and her nose twitching as the scent of the mouse washing over her nose. Her tiny stomached growled and she sheepishly turned to walk away in embarrassment. @ None

Tsunamibeach could feel her ear twitch uncomfortably at the very thought of the ear thing. However she tilted her head to the side, "Then again I could see that being a rather interesting look. Not sure if the pain would be worth it - but it would send a message and no one would mess with you" she mulled over the thought in her head. The ever positive thoughts pressing forward now that there was a current distraction from the cold and starvation.
She was ready to argue and press on the matter of eating but then the small silver ball of fur approached. And like that any protest fell from her mind. The small kit needed a good example and she offered the tiny one a warm smile, flicking her thin tail to motion her to join. "you should finish the mouse, we can all share the rabbit.." she mused to Stonefang before nudging the rabbit towards Coastcurl, "I promise I will have a bite, but not until you and this tiny one each have something. It'll help ease my mind."

WHAT WILL THE MIST BRING? Silverkit turned back around and gave the other cats a smile. She dipped her head in thanks and walked to the mouse crouching down she took a bite out the already partially eaten prey. She meowed to them. "Thank you!" She said before she eat the mouse slowly, savoring it's taste. She listened to the adults talk as she ate.

Stonefang smiled at the young kit happy that there was something for her to eat. He took a small bite from the rabbit and savored the taste as he chewed slowly.
"So, who's your mother?" he asked the small kit. He still didn't know all the family ties this group of cats had, especially the kits.

With a sigh of resignation, Coastcurl dipped her head a tore a bite out. She almost was able to suppress the groan as the flavor spread across her mouth. "I don't know the last time I had a rabbit this good," she mumbled around her mouthful, "You've got damn good luck with hunting."
As far as the kit that had joined them, Coastcurl just gave the small bundle a wry look, her lips cutting up in a half grin. "You're a brave one, coming in to three grown cats asking for a meal, aye?"

Myrtlewing lifted her head, she had been exhausted from traveling, and her swollen stomach felt like a weight dragging on her. She could see the other Queens and their kits sleeping, but she noticed a kit new to their group had disappeared. In a worried panic, she sniffed the area, but there was no sign of any danger to have taken her. She tried to follow Silverkit’s trail, the young she-cat hadn’t been her own, but Myrtlewing still felt responsible for such a young kit.
She sighed with relief as she recognized Silverkit talking with Stonefang, Tsunamibeach, and Coastcurl, the leading she-cat of their traveling group. Her white and light gray fur finally laid flat, and she walked forward to the cats, blinking in friendly greeting. She sat a bit away, just close enough to watch over the kit. Her tired, pale blue eyes barely remained on Silverkit.
